More good news, this time out of Oregon regarding the new Wolf Management policy just put into law there.........."This agreement gets us back to the wolf plan we thought we had in 2005," said Nick Cady, Legal Director from Cascadia Wildlands............. "Under this agreement, killing wolves should be an option of last resort"........... "Ranchers need to do their part to improve animal husbandry and coexist with native wildlife, and ODFW needs to live up to its mission to ensure abundant populations of native wildlife for all Oregonians"............Wolf recovery remains popular in Oregon............ When the state's wolf plan was developed in 2005, a state poll showed 70 percent of Oregonians supported wolf recovery............... A public review of the Wolf Plan in 2010 generated over 20,000 public comments............... Over 90 percent were in favor of stronger protections for wolves

Some good news to report--Shows that it is possible to push back on the anti-carnivore people if we persist and bring best science to the discussion--Nebraska Game & Parks has put the brakes on a Puma hunting season for this year......................This is not the end of the discussion on shooting and trapping the big cats,,,,,,,,,,,but suggests that even the pro hunt Commission knows that there is no sound scientific justification to target a recovering population that at best numbers 15-20 individuals..............Quite frankly, it is utter madness and human ego out of control for there even to be a discussion about killing a population of this size

Every time a National or State Park is created, there are naysayers who yell "land grab" and Government "overreach"............Think about it though,,,,,,,,,,,what American citizen alive today regrets that the Federal Government bought out landowners to create the Smokey Mtn and Yellowstone Parks..............Does even one New Yorker complain that squatters were booted from Central Park in Manhattan to create this urban oasis?.............Of course not...................And that is why if I were a super wealthy individual like Erivan Haub, Forrest Mars Jr., Hansjoerg Wyss, Louis Bacon, Paul Jones, John Maloneand Ted Turner, I too would be investing with the AMERICAN PRAIRIE FOUNDATION in their quest to create a Prairie National Park the size of Connecticut in northern Montana..............I would also be joining Burts Bees founder Roxanne Quimby in creating a Maine Woods National Park in New England...........Screw our unimaginative and narrow minded Politicians in D.C. and in our State Houses----Go around them and create large swaths of land interconnected to other large swaths of land and hire biologists to re-wild these regions with wolves, pumas, bison, elk, and every other species that our founders discovered living on this great land circa AD 1500!..............This is my Memorial Day Weekend holiday wish!!!!!!!!!!!

When North Dakota first allowed a hunting and trapping season on Pumas a decade ago, virtually no information existed regarding the size, health and range of these animals.........This is what we are constantly harping about on this blog...............Science be dammed,,,,,,,,,,,,,Based on the whims of State Game Commissioners(and their influential hunting and agriculture constituents), hunting seasons and quotas of carnivores are willed into law.....With this in mind, a 3 year study by North Dakota Fish & Wildlife and South Dakota State University has finally revealed the following facts: 1) Pumas do not rely exclusively on Elk and Deer for protein............In fact, porcupines, beavers and raccoons are all on their menu............2)Female "cats" first breed at age 3 and only have two to three kittens every 18 months...........Consider the fact that in the wild, a Puma that lived 7 years would be considered old.........This means females might give birth to five kittens in their lives........With this low reproductive regimine, how in good conscience does N. Dakota or any state kill off these animals without truly having a handle on how many of them exist??????????

How bout that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Michigan has put their Wolf killing plans on hold and going to allow a public vote on the issue in 2014..........Anticipating the wolf hunting law would be suspended, the Legislature this month passed a separate law authorizing the Natural Resources Commission to designate animals as hunting game, including wolves......The advocacy group, Keep Michigan Wolves Protected said Wednesday the group is considering a second referendum on the new law letting the NRC decide game species..............Wow, talk about Wolves being a "political football" in Michigan.............Madness reigns across our nation as it relates to Carnivore protection........As John Laundre said in yesterdays Post on Carnivores, the ultimate predator, Man, continues to seek to eliminate all other of natures meat eaters.............HUMAN HUMILITY HAS LEFT THE ROOM!
