Prior to the 1850 Goldrush, California had the highest density of Grizzlies in the lower 48, feasting on the multitude of Toyon(hollyberry) and other fruit bearing evergreens that enrapped the hills and valleys..........Prominently displayed on the State Seal and Flag, their is a campagin underway to bring back the iconic carnivore by The Center for Biological Diversity,,,,,,,,,,,,The 8000 square miles of Sierra Nevada(5.3 million acres) is seen as a safe haven for both the bears and people..............
