William Huard of Los Angeles, California reacted to the RICHLAND SOURCE(an Ohio newspaper) article below about Coyotes as I did--with revulsion, disgust and dismay at the baldfaced lies and distortions hurled at the Eastern Coyote...............He smartly and adroitly calls out the false statements about the so-called "COYOTE MENANCE" in Ohio...........In .Mr. Huard's own words: "Logan Masters(source of the inacurate commentary) is a naturalist? How do you figure that?".......... "He operates a "nuisance wildlife control" company"......... "He knows less than nothing about predators or biology for that matter"............. "Where I come from we would call Masters a SLOB sport hunter"............ "Coyotes can be hunted all year long and have no bag limit, but hunters still must have a valid Ohio hunting permit." ............"There you go genius"......... "States that ignore the breeding patterns of coyotes and other sentient mammals tend to have more coyotes than the States that use "biology" to guide their management decisions"......... "I guess that works fine for Logan Masters- he's right at home in bumpkin Ohio with the rest of the backward "naturalists" who persecute animals and "try" to make a living at it"............ "I never trust anyone who calls an animal a "critter"............"Maybe Masters can learn something"............. Randi Spivik of the Center for Biodiversity sums up the decision by USFW Service to not put the Greater Sage Grouse on the Endangered Species List--. “While there are some important improvements for sage grouse in the new federal land-management plans, they still ultimately fall short of what’s needed to ensure these birds’ long-term survival................Jamie Rappaport Clark of Defenders of Wildlife also criticized the government’s decision saying the proposed government plans “failed to adopt key conservation measures identified by the government’s own scientists and sage-grouse experts as critical to conserving the bird, such as protecting winter habitat or confronting the growing threat of climate change to the species’ habitat.”.........And Ecologist George Wuerthner writing in the WILDLIFE NEWS states-- "livestock grazing is one of the major factors driving the bird to extinction and almost gets a free pass to continue unabated with minor adjustments around the fringes"............."(The Obama Administration) has successfully put off and delayed any real consequences for extractive industries whose businesses will more or less go on unhindered as before"........ "The decision not to list, also deflate the efforts of some western Republicans seeking to totally eliminate or at least make ineffective, the Endangered Species Act:........... "What this decision does for the time being is kicks the can down the road for the next administration to deal with".............. "I seriously doubt that the proposals in the agency plans will be fully implemented, monitored and enforced" --

According to a recent study, temperatures above the Arctic Circle have risen at almost twice the rate as the rest of the world in the last century.............. Not only is climate change in the Arctic awakening ancient viruses and opening up new areas for governments to drill for resources, but it’s also causing allowing many more Arctic mosquitoes to survive and attack anything with a pulse............Accordingly, Caribou are spending more time running to cooler and windier northern sections of the Arctic, expending fat reserves in the process.........Compounding this stress, is that Calf birthing is coinciding with Mosquito swarming, leaving both mother and calves vulnerable to a blood sucking assault by the insects

In 1998, I had the great privlidge of befriending Wildlife Photographer and Storyteller, Marty Stouffer.......His Emmy Award winning WILD AMERICA ran for 12 years on PUBLIC TELEVISION aggregating 120 of the finest American wildlife episodes ever to air on tv........I ended up selling the WILD AMERICA library episodes to tv stations around the USA and they continue to air on the weekends across the Country to this day(check your local listings)......... The music for the first 35 episodes of Wild America was written by Neil Argo (P.J., MacGyver, Beverly Hills 90210)............. The New York Times article(below) that appeared yesterday highlights the backward thinking as it relates to natural disasters, whether they be caused by wildfires or hurricanes..............We humans only think in terms of insurance, rebuilding and Dollar bills...............As George Wuerthner has been pounding away at, why are Insurance Companies allowed to issue fire and flood insurance in the arid fire-prone western states?.........Why are these Insurance Companies allowed to issue flood insurance in the flood prone Eastern Seaboard and southern Gulf states?

WHITE NOSE SYNDROME has knocked out as many as 98% of certain Bat species(Northern Long-Eared Bat) across the Northeastern and Midwestern States...........A malady that Researchers are still without certain remedy for, this white fungus appears on a bat’s nose, ears, and wings during hibernation..........., The disease causes bats to awaken in the middle of winter, forcing them to increase their metabolic rate and expend energy at a time when no flying insects are available to eat............ Almost all infected bats perish, and in many hibernacula more than 90 percent of the animals become infected................One effort involves the creation of a bacterial spray developed from a bacterium found naturally on the skin of big brown bats that may suppress the fungus and help them survive the winter.............Bottom line is that Big Brown, Eastern Small-Footed, Indiana and Tri-Color Bats have taken a beating from this fungus that first appeared in the environment during the 2006-07 Winter.............Climate Change, airborne pollutants, a natrurally occurring fungus---No one knows what set this "death sentence" for Bats into motion............Insect populations have skyrocketed in regions where the Syndrome has hit the hardest as Bats are no longer available in quantity to suppress their populations........To put that ecological services disrutption into perspective, with most Bat species producing only "pup" annually, it is projected that it might take 100 years for many of these Bat species to expand their numbers to pre 2006-07 levels
