We recently succeeded in getting introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives a bill that would allow the permanent closure of a federal grazing allotment at the insistence of the rancher who holds the associated grazing permit. The "Rural Economic Vitalization Act," H.R. 3432 was introduced on Nov. 15th by Rep. Adam Smith (WA-9) with six original cosponsors:
Rep. Earl Blumenauer (OR-3)
Rep. Peter DeFazio (OR-4)
Rep. Raul Grijalva (AZ-7)
Rep. Maurice Hinchey (NY-22)
Rep. Barbara Lee (CA-9)
Rep. Allison Schwartz (PA-13).
We believe that quickly increasing the number of House cosponsors will improve our chances of securing a Senate sponsor. I and several other people will be going to Washington, DC, in mid-December for just that purpose.
The Sierra Club has installed a webpage that allows you to easily urge your member of Congress to support this legislation. I will be very grateful for you to contact your representative in that regard.
