Rick Hopkins of the COUGAR FUND quotes Teddy Roosevelt so appropriately in his editorial entitled: GAME & FISH FUEL FEARS OF COUGARS,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,"NO AMERICAN BEAST HAS BEEN THE SUBJECT OF SO MUCH LOOSE WRITING OR OF SUCH WILD FABLES AS THE COUGAR"..............Our former President knew the Puma as a trophic carnivore, not the man-killing marauding beast that so many of us Americans claim it to be...........Catering to these prejudices and fears, the Wyoming Fish & Wildlife folks last week moved a mother Puma and her two cubs out of the Cache Creek Drainage region of the State simply based on "what if's" because ranchers claimed that the Puma family could attack and hurt humans.............Meanwhile, the "Cats" were minding their own business, feeding on deer and fulfilling their trophic heritage............Moving the Pumas subjects them to a potential death sentence as they are bound to be tresspassing on another Pumas home turf ,,,,,,,,,,Conflict and potential death the outcome of such a translocation..................Rick writes eloquently of the need for education, tolerance and sound science in fostering a meaningful co-existance regimine with our "Ghost Cat"..................click on the full editorial below
