I take issue with the University of California, Santa Cruz study that has concluded that lymes disease is on the rise in the midwest due to the decline of red foxes in the region.........Researchers have concluded that since Coyotes have become sympatric with red foxes across the eastern half of the USA, Fox populations have suffered as Coyotes have diminished their numbers..........For sure it is true that Coyotes will kill foxes and cause them to live at the margins of Coyote territories.............However, both Canid species hunt and eat the same small mammals and rodents that are host to the Lymes deer tick so my premise is that while fox populations maybe down in some regions, the combined coyote/fox impact on mammals, rodents and deer fawns has to greater than ever, thus in theory reducing the biomass of tick carrying mammals, birds and rodents..............What am I missing in challenging the U. of Calif findings?

Missing Foxes Fuel Lyme Disease Spread
