Another illuminating article on the "Canid soup" admix that exists amongst Wolves and Coyotes across Eastern Canada into the Great Lakes and on into the Prairie region of Saskatchewan, Canada................Some familiar contributors to this blog including Brent Patterson and Paul Paquet drawing the conclusion that Wolf and Coyote hybridization is greatly encouraged by human induced alteration of the landscape including climate change and land alteration..............Lead author Astrid Stronen of the U. of Montreal concluding this informative paper saying: "Human influence might now reverse speciation and the relationship between ecological divergence and reproductive isolation appears strong across taxa".........."A research priority is thus to understand better the extent to which reproductively compatible but ecologically different groups such as coyotes and wolves may coexist without further hybridization given the opportunity for divergent prey selections"
