Is TEXAS PARKS AND WILDLIFE really going to allow deer hunters to use dogs to track down deer that have been shot.................Texas currently does not allow hunters to use dogs to hunt deer by running them down.........................But realistically, if you allow dogs in the woods and fields, how do you realistically stop hunters from crossing the line and using their dogs unfairly(having them chase deer)?....................We urge the Lone Star State Game Commissioners to take the "dogs in the woods" option off of the table and ensure that "Fair chase" continue to be the only option when hunters go into the woods to hunt this Fall

Trailing deer with dogs could be returning to East Texas

Trailing deer with dogs could be returning to East Texas

But that could change for a number
of counties within the coming months.
Texas Parks and Wildlife officils are
discussing allowing dogs for trailing deer,
this means once a deer is shot and runs off,
this dog is used to track him down and find
            the body.

This is very different from using the dog
to hunt deer, by running them out of the
woods, or catching their scent and leading
             the hunter to them.

This type of hunting is illegal all across the state               to not being deemed fair.
This will also make it harder for game wardens to enforcethe law, since they
can't tell if the dog was used in hunting
the deer after the fact.

But according to Smith County game warden Dustin Dockery, this will, in the
end be a good thing for East Texas, if the proposal passes, since it will help with deer conservation.

In most parts of South and West Texas, dogs can be used to trail deer.
But that could all change for some East Texas counties after deliberations and public hearings take place in late July and august.

Counties where the ban could be lifted: Harris, Harrison, Houston, Jefferson, Liberty, Montgomery, Panola, Polk, Rusk, San Jacinto, Trinity, and Walker
