The December 21 edition of THE ECONOMIST magazine had a feature story on HUNTING IN AMERICA,,,,,,,,,,,,,The article evaluates the NORTH AMERICAN MODEL OF WILDLIFE CONSERVATION and illustrates why laudable in it's original intent, it is not fulfilling what President Teddy Roosevelt and others in the early 20th century felt was it's blueprint---"frivolous killing cannot be ethical, let alone sporting"........"drawing on biblical codes of morality, they declared that the role of hunting was to feed a young nation and in Roosevelt's phrase--to keep men hardy, so that they can show themselves fit to take part in work or strife for their native land"............."Wild animals are supposed to be killed for food, not mere trophy collection"...................There is a thoughtful 3 page discussion about how market forces have delivered weapons and gadgets that allow anyone to be a hunter and why this faster, easier weaponry weaken Roosevelt's values about what hunting is supposed to really be about................Biologist John Laundre has been writing for us on this very set of topics over the last year and all who have found his insights illuminating will also enjoy reading the full article below

here to read the entire article entitled

Is it fair chase when we have high tech weapons and every type device to
kill deer and other wildlfe?.....Is it fair chase to be up above the forest floor
in a deerstand shooting at animals who unless they smell you, have no clue
that you are there?..........Is this what the founders of the NORTH AMERICAN
MODEL OF WILDLIFE CONSERVATION intended to be our hunting paradigm?
