Grizzly bears, black bears, wolves, coyotes, cougars/ mountain lions, bobcats, wolverines, lynx, foxes, fishers and martens are the suite of carnivores that originally inhabited North America after the Pleistocene extinctions. This site invites research, commentary, point/counterpoint on that suite of native animals (predator and prey) that inhabited The Americas circa 1500-at the initial point of European exploration and subsequent colonization. Landscape ecology, journal accounts of explorers and frontiersmen, genetic evaluations of museum animals, peer reviewed 20th and 21st century research on various aspects of our "Wild America" as well as subjective commentary from expert and layman alike. All of the above being revealed and discussed with the underlying goal of one day seeing our Continent rewilded.....Where big enough swaths of open space exist with connective corridors to other large forest, meadow, mountain, valley, prairie, desert and chaparral wildlands.....Thereby enabling all of our historic fauna, including man, to live in a sustainable and healthy environment. - Blogger Rick

"Wolf hounding is barbaric, in-humane and archaic and has no place in a civilized society" ---Rachel Tilseth.......................Rachel will be speaking on Earth Day, April 22 at the State Capital in Madison Wisconsin on this important Wolf Protection Measure .........She is also pushing the Wisconsin Legislature to vote down the proposed amendment that would allow hunters to walk onto private property to retrieve their Hounds during hunting season.................Rachel rightly sees this proposed law as allowing hunters to pursue Wolves with hounds without restrictions across all property, public or private

Subject: hounders -vs- private property rights

Rick
There's a battle looming here in Wisc between hounders and private property rights.  Please share. As always thank you Rachel

Wolves of Douglas County Wisconsin "Wisconsinites do you want your private property rights taken away by a small minority of hunting extremists?" That is what the hounders are asking in one of the questions:
No. 48 of the Wisconsin Conservation Congress agenda is: “Do you support legislation that would allow the owner of a hunting dog the ability to retrieve their hunting dog without landowner’s permission?”
http://dnr.wi.gov/about/wcc/

I've been hearing from property owners all across the Wisc north woods complaining about hounders violating property rights. I discussed this with the DNR's head wolf biologist who agrees hounders create many problems across the north woods. I think this must be addressed and stopped.

WODCW is a voice for these concerns and advises all north woods residents to attend the Wisconsin Conservation Congress in your county on April 14th. Do not let anyone take away your private property rights!
Rachel
