So even with a reduced South Dakota Puma population due to increased human hunting, dispersers are still managing to find routes east, sometimes ending up in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan,,,,,,,,,,,,,Two more pictures of our large "cats" were positively identified by the state's Dept. of Natural Resources in late October and again in the first 9 days of November..........At this point, state biologists feel that the pictures reveal the same Puma, once seen in Chppewa county and the the 2nd time seen in Mackinac county............Since 2008, 26 confirmed sightings in the Upper Peninsula,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Still, the DNR does not believer there is a breeding population in Michigan..............We are waiting for that one female Puma to make the journey to the midwest...............She will seemingly have plenty of qualified bachelor males to come courting her and she will be protected under Michigan law as an endangered species(loophole being that if someone feels threatened, they can shoot to kill the CAT--lousy law)
