We need a secure border but not at the expense of our wildlife....... As we know, Species like bears and wolves play a vital ecological role through their effect on the numbers and distribution of other species.................. Keeping our borders permeable for large carnivores is essential to supporting the fantastic biodiversity in these regions..................The Mexican wolf is a classic case of government agencies’ working at cross-purposes................. Equally dedicated government agencies(USFW and Dept. of Homeland Security) seek, on one hand, to enforce species protection and, on the other, border security........................ The result is that cross-border corridors essential for large carnivores are obstructed and taxpayer-funded conservation efforts risk going to waste........................ The sums may seem insignificant in the grand scheme of government expenditures, but it is very vexing given how precious these modest conservation funds are
