When you hear the reporter on the tv news or the writer in your local paper report on a "troublesome" or an "aggressive" Coyote, there is never an attempt by the reporters to find out why the animal was acting in a certain manner................The only conclusion brought forward is that "we cannot have animals attacking people so the animal(s) in question must be killed.............The below article reveals that Coyotes are particularly territorial during pup raising season(March through the Fall) and that "Mommy" Coyote will aggressively look to keep all animals including man far away from where her pups are denned up.......and yes, a Coyote will not back away or run off if she feels her pups are in potential jeopardy

SHELIA SMITH / For The Expositor This female coyote was not giving an inch. She weighed about 22 kilograms, or 50 pounds, but looked larger because of her coat and long legs. There is no question that most of the animals now called Eastern coyotes have red (Algonquin) wolf DNA. They have broader skulls, different dentition (teeth) and are larger than the typical western coyotes. They are becoming increasingly common in cities as they are clever and adaptable. The largest on record with the Ministry of Natural Resources weighs only a little more than my estimate. For the most part, they avoid people.
