Is there a better breed of Guard Dog than the Great Pyrenees and akbash to guard sheep and cattle so that Ranchers do not have to EMPLOY the wolf, bear, puma and coyote killing paradigm of the Federal Wildlife Services Division of ot the Agriculture Dept?.........Tests going on now in the American West suggest that three breeds of dog, the cão de gado transmontano, a mastiff breed currently protecting sheep in the mountains of northern Portugal and two other obscure breeds — the karakachan, from Bulgaria, and the kangal, from Turkey — just might have the "right stuff"(larger and tougher than other breeds) in terms of taking on Wolf packs, Griz, Coyote families and Pumas--ultimately keeping our trophic carnivores alive rather than shot dead!............
