At some point, we will get wolves back in the Northeast.................It would be so much easier if there was an easier route for Algonquin Wolves to navigate South...................The vast farmlands(farmers shoot anything that moves) and the St Lawrence River are formidable obstacles to natural Wolf migration............coupled with the sizeable eastern coyote population that can breed with the occasional lone wandering wolf, not a simple proposition to get wolves on the ground in New England with transplanting some there(a la Yellowstone reintroduction)
In response to a petition from a group of concerned citizens, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service issued a finding today that because there is not currently a breeding population of wolves in the northeastern United States, the population does not qualify for protection under the Endangered Species Act. As a result, a recovery plan will not be developed to bring the species back.
