Stan Gehrt's 2009 HOME RANGE AND LANDSCAPE USE OF COYOTES IN A METROPOLITAN LANDSCAPE:CONFLICT OR COEXISTANCE? is revealing in its findings about coyote impact on the land and people in the heavily urbanized middle of the USA region nicknamed "greater chicagoland"........................Natural habitat rather than urbanized settings is the preferred home territory choice by coyotes but there are individuals who will inhabit inner-city zones successfully............Nonetheless, coyotes living in both natural and urbanized sections of Chicago will by and large seek to avoid people by resting by day and hunting by night and avoiding human related food opportunities..............The bottom line is that the vast majority of Chicagoland coyotes exploit areas of intense human development while largely managing to avoid people and the conflicts that such encounters usually invoke
