Grizzly bears, black bears, wolves, coyotes, cougars/ mountain lions, bobcats, wolverines, lynx, foxes, fishers and martens are the suite of carnivores that originally inhabited North America after the Pleistocene extinctions. This site invites research, commentary, point/counterpoint on that suite of native animals (predator and prey) that inhabited The Americas circa 1500-at the initial point of European exploration and subsequent colonization. Landscape ecology, journal accounts of explorers and frontiersmen, genetic evaluations of museum animals, peer reviewed 20th and 21st century research on various aspects of our "Wild America" as well as subjective commentary from expert and layman alike. All of the above being revealed and discussed with the underlying goal of one day seeing our Continent rewilded.....Where big enough swaths of open space exist with connective corridors to other large forest, meadow, mountain, valley, prairie, desert and chaparral wildlands.....Thereby enabling all of our historic fauna, including man, to live in a sustainable and healthy environment. - Blogger Rick

I just can't stand to read the rest of this.I'm embarrassed to call myself a hunter. The people who do these things don' know the contribution that coyotes make in the general scheme of things.

They aren't aware that coyotes help to keep the rodent populations down. They help to keep the deer moving during during daylight hours.

Deer are smart and they won't eat if they fear they will be shot at, and bucks will wait till night to chase does.If you are a real hunter, you have found these things out already.

If you want better hunting, stop killing the predators.

Coyotes are like owls on the ground .. They control the rodent population .. When this isn't done we poison the rodents and then these rodenticides get into our water and land .. Are the pesticide companies in cahoots with the hunters to eliminate our coyotes?!

Stop this nonsense and let's use organic rodent control
