Grizzly bears, black bears, wolves, coyotes, cougars/ mountain lions, bobcats, wolverines, lynx, foxes, fishers and martens are the suite of carnivores that originally inhabited North America after the Pleistocene extinctions. This site invites research, commentary, point/counterpoint on that suite of native animals (predator and prey) that inhabited The Americas circa 1500-at the initial point of European exploration and subsequent colonization. Landscape ecology, journal accounts of explorers and frontiersmen, genetic evaluations of museum animals, peer reviewed 20th and 21st century research on various aspects of our "Wild America" as well as subjective commentary from expert and layman alike. All of the above being revealed and discussed with the underlying goal of one day seeing our Continent rewilded.....Where big enough swaths of open space exist with connective corridors to other large forest, meadow, mountain, valley, prairie, desert and chaparral wildlands.....Thereby enabling all of our historic fauna, including man, to live in a sustainable and healthy environment. - Blogger Rick

Subject: Rewilding Adventure - The Carnivore Way

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

As you may know, I have for several years now been teaching a course through the Yellowstone Association Institute, and I am honored to be doing so again. This time, I am particularly excited to announce that in conjunction with the book I wrote last year, The Carnivore Way, my publisher, Island Press, is running a Rewilding Adventure sweepstakes.

Cristina Eisenberg

One lucky winner and their guest will win a spot in my "Carnivores and Corridors" course (May 25th through 28th), tracking wildlife including wolves, grizzlies, wolverines, lynx and cougars. Students will go from classroom discussion to hiking in Yellowstone National Park not only learning about key carnivore species, their habitats, and how they interact with other species in the wild, but also observe them up close. The winners will explore Yellowstone National Park through the eyes of its wildlife and experience what it means to have carnivore species roaming across the park's vast landscapes.

Prize includes air travel, accommodations, rental car, course fees, and a complimentary copy of The Carnivore Way. Entries can be submitted once per day through March 22, 2015, so enter daily to increase your chances of winning. Some restrictions apply; see official contest rules for details. Entries close on March 22, 2015. In addition, for ONLY this week until January 19, you can get electronic copy of The Wolf's Tooth at no cost at major e-book retailers.
