In the June 1, 2013 New Scientist Magazine, Ed Yong chronicles Johnn Laundre's ground breaking LANDSCAPE OF FEAR paradigm,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,certain habitat "where the odds of being eaten are high and they(the prey animal) must be constantly vigilant",,,,,,,,,,,,,,, as well as habitat which provides "relative safety where(the prey animal) can lower his/her guard"....................THE LANDSCAPE OF FEAR challenges the belief that predators only effect their prey by killing them................In fact predators cause long term and constant fear in the minds of the prey animals that are on their "menu"..............................Laundre feels that the future of conservation centers around managing landscapes,,,,,,,,keeping just the right levels of risky and safe habitats to maintain a stable mix of both predator and prey.....................A tip of the hat to John for his great insights into this critcal piece of the ecological puzzle.....................Read the entire article by cliking on the link below
