11 years ago, our friend and consistant contributor to this blog, George Wuerthner forecasted that by 2020, Wolves would begin to recolonize Northern California...........This, just 5 years after Wolves were reintroduced to Yellowstone and environs and 11 years prior to Wolves recolonizing neighboring Oregon......Both Paul Pacquet's research for the World Wildlife Fund and Carlos Carroll's Klamath Center for conservation Research have both concluded that based on prey availability, road density and human population, the Modoc Plateau, Lost Coast/Yolla Bolly area of Northern California could readily support a Gray Wolf breeding population....Human population in Del Norte, Siskiyou, Lassen, Humboldt, Trinity and Modoc Counties is actually lower than occupied wolf habitat in Montana, Minnesota, Michigan and Wisconsin.......As we have all discussed on many occasions, Wolves do not need undisturbed Wilderness to survive,,,,,,all they need is for the human animal not to shoot and trap them!!!!!!!.....With the Oregon Wolf described in yesterdays blog Post trotting just 50 miles North of the California border over the past Month, George's article is a revealing read and insight into what might happen very soon in the New Year ahead--click below to read full article
